Tell us everything we need to know about the new club (please pick just one) that you have become involved with or are still exploring. What is the purpose of your involvement: personal or academic interest? What do you hope to gain from this experience? What opportunities for leadership are available? How will involvement in this organization help you in the future.
A club that i've been interested in exploring is the drumline club called Groove. At this point i've only been exploring interest because the regular fall drumline is still in season, and Groove is only in the spring semester. Basically it's a laid-back version of the fall drumline, but they do performances for various high schools and other events like basketball games, and a performance during VEISHA.
This club really has no academic interest to me, but as far as personal interest, it's something that is really fun and I enjoy a lot. Drumming is something that I fill a lot of my free time with and Groove is a great way to hangout with people that have the same interests as me and just enjoy drumming and having fun, and doing a few performances on the side. All I really hope to gain from an experience in this club is I want to enhance my ability as a drummer and make some friends in the process, above all I just want to have a good time and become a better drummer.
As far as leadership positions go, I've been informed by the person who is currently in charge that i'll be a section leader in the spring, which is exciting for me because freshman usually have a difficult enough time getting good spots in the drumline, but being a section leader as a freshman is a huge opportunity for me. This will help to further my leadership skills and will allow me to enhance my ability to drum.
This is only one example of the clubs that I've looked into that I'm interested in, or planning on joining in the future. Other clubs of interest include the running club, and the ultimate frisbee club but I will be unable to join any of them until the Spring semester because of current time commitments that I have.

ReplyDeleteThis is really cool. It reminds me of high school band days where there was the marching band. When the drumline was along with the entire band in the fall, but then in the winter into the spring, there was winter drumline. I didn't even know this existed..awesome! :)

ReplyDeleteAfter jazz band in high school, I'd sit around with the drummers and try to learn to play trap set. I'm still awful, but I realize how much effort you guys put into what you do. Becoming a section leader as a freshmen is a huge accomplishment. Good luck with it!
